With sufficient profile and a clearly defined center of effort, the Wave sail pulls crisply from the start and takes you quickly into planing and through the surf. At the same time it accelerates incredibly for a wave sail and therefore also brings great upwind characteristics.
The sail range is adaptive, the smaller sizes up to 5.0 sqm are less profiled and designed for more sensitive wave riding. From 5.3 onwards the profile gets fuller and the Horizon is ready for powerful power wave riding or bump and jump action. With its 5 battens it lies ultra stable in your hands and is easy to maneuver, a real plus for wave beginners.
If you are looking for a wave sail with kick, huge wind range and also the license to bump and jump, you will be thrilled with the Horizon.

WINDSURFING JAHRBUCH 2020 | HORIZON 5.0 2020

GUNSAILS | Test Report Wave Sail Horizon 2020 Windsurfing Jahrbuch

ON THE BEACH: The GUNSAILS Horizon goes into its second season in 2020. The outline was only slightly revised. The biggest changes can be found in the seams and the panels in the top. Some seams have been omitted and the proportion of square ply has been increased. The features of the Horizon are still exemplary. There is no way to find any monofilm. Plenty of X-Ply, double seams and Dacron patches for reinforcement ensure longevity. In contrast to other brands, you can be sure that the sail won't break up at all ends after two seasons. The trim of the Horizon is uncomplicated. Pull the downhaul until the loose leech reaches the trim mark. This requires much less trim force than the old Transwave and the Loose Leech is actually limited to the two upper sail panels. The power can then be regulated most easily via the two eyelets on the clew. If you are not sure about the choice of eyelets, simply follow the explanatory print.

ON THE WATER: When other testers are desperately hanging on their boom in a shorebreak, the GUNSAILS Horizon reliably takes off from the start. Especially in gusty winds near the shore, it can play its trump cards to the full. The pressure point is very well defined between the hands, even when a strong gust strikes. Instead of opening the sail now, the damped and clearly defined power development of the Horizon allows you to step directly into the foot straps. Whoever knows how to use the power flies a little further and higher with every jump or pumps himself into planing mode particularly early. Since there are "all in one swiss army knives" only in the manufacturer catalog, it surprises no one that the power of the Horizon means slight compromises in handling. On the other hand, upwind sailing is easy and thanks to its high top speed, the sail also makes an excellent impression on crossover boards or flat water. When the Horizon goes down and up the wave slope again and again, it provides uninterrupted power, which can sometimes be too much for lightweights. And so the steering impulses should be more clear. But the Horizon pulls even the lamest boards through the turns - a plus for wave intermediates!

CONCLUSION: As a classic powerwave sail with excellent control, the Horizon is a loyal companion even in gusty winds. On the wave you can't expect a handling miracle, but a lot of drive in the turn. Among all wave sails, the Horizon is the most interesting and suitable product for high wind freeriders.
