Wave Windsurf Segel

A NEW ERA

The 2021 vintage of our 4-batten wave sail is more than just a small update. The Seal changes from a Compact Wave sail to a Core Wave sail. Improved control, consistent performance and a more pronounced OFF make it the perfect allrounder for all wave conditions. What we haven’t changed are its exemplary features and legendary durability.

WHY SEAL 2021?

Windsurf

With a new, stretched outline, the Seal takes it to the next level. The luff has been elongated in all sizes and the boom shortened. As a result, the sail is now even lighter in the hand and can be controlled even more directly. But it is not only the changed sail geometry that contributes to the light feel of the sail. For 2021 we are increasing the proportion of 3 mil square-ply and are now launching the lightest GUNSAILS Wave sail ever on the market.

The Seal maintains its highly praised mixture of drive and neutrality, but through accurate fine-tuning, the OFF has now been highlighted.

Fast, agile and easy to turn, with these characteristics the new Seal masters every wave intuitively. With its active twist and the new plus of control you keep the overview even in extreme wind and can concentrate on the next maneuver.

The Core Wave sail for hardcore conditions.

GERMAN SURF MAGAZINE CONFIRMS

With a noticeably lower weight, shorter boom and softer profile, designer Renato Morlotti wants to have noticeably improved the handling and neutrality of the Seal. However, you don’t have to do without the usual GUNSAILS features such as the Fred trim aid. The Seal offers very moderate trim forces on the luff, you trim independently of the wind up to the mark, the adjustment to the wind range is then primarily done via the boom trim. The Seal feels damped and comfortable, but never feels spongy even in the hands of heavy surfers (>85 kilos), even on the 370 mast. The sail stabilises immediately in the planing phase, is well-balanced in the hand and develops above-average planing power. Fortunately, the 2021 model turns out to be noticeably more manageable than in the past, both on the straight and in manoeuvres. The Seal also convinced us on the wave, as it still offers enough drive to reach the lip of the wave with enough power even in sluggish conditions, but now also more neutrality and lightness in flat trim, which noticeably expands the range of use for side-offshore waves and freestyle tricks.

surf conclusion: Planing performance, control, handling - the GUNSAILS wave sail now plays in the top group all over the place! Balanced like this, it turns out to be a loyal companion for strong wind freeriders, trick surfers and wave surfers alike.

SEAL VS HORIZON

Windsurf

EQUIPMENT DIFFERENCES

SEAL: 4-Batten core wave sail. Balanced mix of drive and neutrality with more OFF than the Horizon. 100 % X-Ply.

HORIZON: 5-Batten power wave sail with a deeper and more direct profile, which looks a bit stiffer due to the 5 battens. 100 % X-Ply.

SAIL CHARACTER

SEAL: Allround wave sail for side- and onshore conditions. Very good performance and good pull on the back hand, fast and responsive. Balanced feeling with more OFF, it is more neutral when riding waves. The wider Dacron luff panel softly absorbs gusts and chop.

HORIZON: Powerful, well planing wave sail, rather for onshore conditions. Fast, with noticeable pull on the back hand and always some drive, less OFF. Very good control in strong winds, therefore also ideal as a storm sail on flat and choppy water.

RIDER PROFILE

SEAL: For all windsurfing levels. Great for down-the-line wave rides and jumps, tight or wide manoeuvres, even freestyle tricks. For performance-oriented wave riders with single fin or multi fin boards up to freestyle wave boards.

HORIZON: For all windsurfing levels. For powerful waveriders or heavier riders in low wind areas with a preference for jumps, Bump & Jump or even Freestyle. For large volume wave boards, freestylers or freemove boards.

“The Seal has everything a wave sail needs. It’s robust, neutral in handling and still has a power reserve to get yourself out of tricky situations.”
