GUNSAILS RDM EXTENSION IN ALU AND CARBON

The Pro XT RDM from GunSails is an attractive price-performance product in both versions. The solid stainless steel fitting with two smooth-running rollers decorates both the aluminum version and the nobly shimmering carbon tube.

The clever arrangement of the rollers with the large axle, through which the rope is threaded either from one side or the other, allows a clean rope guidance for sails with three rollers. And this is true for the roller block (as sewn on in the photo below right) as well as for GunSails - and for the variant rotated by 90 degrees in comparison.

The supplied soft, smooth Dyneema rope noticeably reduces friction and trimming forces, but - like all Dyneema ropes - also tends to pinch the fingers together when there is a lot of tension. A loop and the harness hook are a good choice for fine trimming. With just under 2.5 centimeters shortest length, the extension should fit most sails, the adjustment ring can be moved quickly and safely (unfold and twist slightly, then it goes from zero to 48 without stopping in between) and snaps into the holes independently.

The push button is quite small and tightly sprung, but sits elegantly and flush in the tube and is easy to operate.

The solid 32 aluminum extension weighs 652 grams, the 48 carbon sweetheart 552 grams. The aluminum extension costs 85 euros (32 cm) or 95 euros (48 cm). For 145 euros (32 cm) and 165 euros (48 cm) there's the counterpart as XT RDM Carbon. The solid ring with tension rubber engages every two centimeters, the shortest setting is 2.5 centimeters.
